As seasons get more confusing (what’s the deal with the overnight change of 65+ degree winter days to 8 degree winter temps?!) and COVID variants continue to emerge, the start to the new year feels ominous, thus stamping the biggest 2022 fashion trends seen on the runways in September, with a sizeable question mark.
Though reverting to a 24/7 sweatpants existence feels disheartening, it’s likely the only manner of dress you’ll be embracing right now as offices are closing and we’re working from home once again. But it’s not all doom and gloom for the rest of the year. (I mean, the year just begun- let’s have a little faith here.) While soft clothes are, indeed, a piece of the 2022 style puzzle, they’re not the only items on deck.
Nostalgia is the name of the game.
With Y2K peaking higher than ever, this new year has plenty of fun trends in store for the next reemergence wave. Spotlight-stealing attire with a joyous mood is taking over, from vivid colors and prints to bold silhouettes like bubble dresses, volume tops, cut-outs galore and ultra-low rises on pants and skirts.
Ahead, let’s get down on the fashion trends that will be big in 2022. Naturally, with a few Babe On A Budget friendly options. Click the images to shop. ♥️
Voluminous Silhouettes
From oversize shirting to ballooned silhouettes and a continuation of the puff sleeve trend- dresses and tops retain their volume in 2022. If anything, the latter will spice up all the soft pants you’ll probably still be rocking on the bottom.
Low-Rise Pants & Skirts
Dipping wayyyy below the belly button, the low-slung pant and micro- mini skirt are back in full force. If you’re not the stretchy thong- revealing type, embrace the look via low-slung denim, leather pants, or cargos á la Jennifer Aniston in the ’90s.
Cutouts
No shame in the cutout game. If 2022 will prove one thing, it’s that skin is still in, and cleverly-placed cutouts on dresses, tops, even the occasional low-rise bottom will stick around as part of the nostalgic Y2K fashion movement.
**this one I am majorly obsessed with, as it incorporates TWO of 2022’s biggest looks, cutouts and mod prints. Hippy, dippy, and sexy.**
Oh, and if your New Year’s resolution is to adopt a new signature color, you better make it purple — it’s the 2022 hue in all tints, from Pantone’s Very Peri color of the year to saturated violet and lavender shades.
Happy 2022! Stay pretty, inside and out. 😊
